Flickering Silk Thread
When we need to cross a barrier, how do we react, bypass it or break it? As we can see more and more microscopic worlds, as we discover the gaps between the cell walls, as we discover that entities are not that rigid. The delicate mycelium flutters in the air, and its toughness foot detect window in the barrier, even if the window only microns in size. it will be threading the barrier lightly and tenderly, then embrace it more and more tightly, until the fungus sprouts. Instead of yielding and destroying, It chooses to coexist with the barrier.
The work is based on the ability of mycelia to penetrate, wrapping different fungus in different fabrics. The fabrics is transformed into a barrier for mycelium to explore its penetration. In addition, the penetration of mycelia is also a remodeling ability. Part of the fabrics comes from Jinxi residents, which is a symbol of human beings. The mycelium wraps it and shapes it, turning soft clothes into hard objects, and then i returns the “new implements” to the living space of these residents, by filling in the walls, mending the roof, raising the table...so that these "chimera" can coexist with our daily life.

Grasp, Kneel, Hold, Count, Pray
The "handless, two-fingering human being "of the future —Homo digitalis—will not be a man of action. This hand is a sacred symbolic representation----the symbolic body become degenerate in the result of the digitalized world. Only the invalid’s body presents an opportunity for artificial body. Only the device gives us the option of a stronger belief. Perhaps the digital fingers are creating the best foundation for man-machine. Vilém Flusser claimed that today’s human being, equipped with digital apparatuses, is already living the immaterial life of tomorrow. Manual atrophy “characterizes such an existence. Digital technology is making human hands waste away. It means liberation from the burden of matter. The term “digital” itself references the finger, and counting. In the future, humankind will no longer need hands. The new man will no longer have to handle or work on anything: he will have truck not with physical things but only with immaterial information. Fingers will take the place of hands. The new man will finger instead of handling——or acting.
The paintings made fingers as the object of sketching, removing the size and the authenticity of human fingers that photography will bring, similar with the worship of "sacred bones" in religion, as if it is the origin of life, exuding light and sacred smell.

Twllight
“During my stay at POINTS, due to the pandemic, I basically stayed in my room and rethought my life and work. Sunrise and sunset can be seen on the lake every day between dawn and dark. Light is a special form of matter. Light enables us to see, what we see is not itself but other matter. In the bright visual experience, what is presented is the surface of the material, which is its material. In this project, I try to interfere with light and material to influence our perception of the surroundings, so as to see some simple things that can be seen every day.”

Re-Ruling
“A Field Guide”, Zhao Qian's ongoing long-term project from '14, focuses on human actives, images, and story-telling. In this long-term project, the “Zoo Series” is the new series beginning in 2020 that includes “Re-Ruling,” "Zoo No.1: Some Rhetorical methods,” "Zoo No.2: Bending," and the associated chapters “Occupied real objects, complete representation world, and demonstration of phantasy”. These chapters focus on rules, rhetoric, structure, and the subconscious behind behavior in the production mechanism, respectively.
The new works did at the Points Center for Contemporary Art is the first chapter of the Zoo Series _ Re-Ruling. The work is divided into two parts, one part is a drawing, where the numbers 1-9 are drawn at a space without overlapping, and the other part is a copy of the shadows of different objects in the physical space. Visible surface is produced by specific rules and behaviors. Constraints are principles rather than means.
